Star Onions Come to the US!
For the first time ever, the Star Onions played for a North American audience at Fan Festival 2006!
Our friends the Star Onions, a band that exclusively plays FINAL FANTASY XI songs, agreed to join us for Fan Festival this year and
entertain the attendees live on stage on Saturday night. It was really an amazing show, and each song they played ended with roaring applause. We're so
glad they were able to make it because they certainly made the night a special one.
The Star Onions for those who don't know are comprised entirely of Square Enix employees all of which had a hand in FINAL FANTASY XI whether
in the soundtrack itself or with other aspects of the game. For more information about the Star Onions, please check out the mini-bio provided in the
event section of this Fan Festival site, or check out their main site here.
The Live Performance was Amazing!
It was a really fantastic set and each song had its own unique atmosphere and style.
The set list for the Star Onions included tracks of their album release:
"Music from the Other Side of Vana'diel" as well as songs from various releases of the FINAL FANTASY XI soundtrack.
The set opened with a rendition of Yuhtunga Jungle. After the song Michael Christopher Koji Fox
who was the drummer for the evening introduced the Star Onions one by one and mentioned the nights performances. Then the group began playing
Rolanberry Fields. Kumi Tanioka,
the piano player for the Star Onions then did a solo rendition of
The Forgotten City - Tavnazian Safehold, a track found on the Star Onions album. The band then performed a rendition of the
Mog House theme, followed by their finalé Awakening where FINAL FANTASY XI Globoal Promotion Producer and Black Mages Drummer
Arata Hanyuda took the percussion helm.
The audience with claps and cheers clamoured for an encore which the Star Onions happily provided beginning with the lovely Kumi Tanioka on piano playing Vana'diel March
after which the remainder of the group joined in for an amazing performance of the Selbina theme, a track from the Star Onions album.
After the Set!
The concert marked the end of Fan Festival 2006, but the Star Onions were gracious enough to stay behind and sign autographs.
The Star Onions finished their set and the Festival was over. The band stayed behind a little while to talk to the fans who came up to the stage
as well as sign autographs. The Star Onions cd as well as the various FINAL FANTASY XI soundtracks were for sale at the merchandise booth on the side of the tent
for Saturday and lots of people stuck around to get their copy signed. It was a really wonderful performance and we hope that these talented musicians can make it
back soon!
