Our Live Quest returned with more quests, more prizes, and more challenges for our experienced adventurers!
This year Live Quest allowed 6-8 people to form a group and once again seek out NPCs to complete some interesting real life quests for our special prize pack! Live Quest worked in 3 tiers based on difficulty. The first tier once completed would award players to the promotion of First Class! One of the quests, "An Empty Vessel", involved solving some challenging word puzzles directly related to the various characters, areas, and items from the Treasures of Aht Urhgan expansion. "Lure of the Wildcat" asked groups to spread the word about Aht Urhgan recruitment by sharing identity badges with other groups. And the quest "Purveyor in Training" asked players to help a crafter solve some difficult recipies. Finishing 2/3 of these quests earned players their first promotion.
The second level of quests upped the difficulty a bit and gave the players a variety of quests to solve. "Get the Picture" asked players to find specific photographic sites within Fan Festival that enabled the NPC journalist to complete their story on the event. The "Royal Painter Escort" quest taught the NPC a bit about the monsters in some highly dangerous areas in Vana'diel by having players draw out the aggressive monsters and identifying the worst! "Finding Faults" perplexed more than just our NPC when he asked players to solve Picross puzzles identifying the secret weaknesses of his beastmen foes. Finally, "The Beast Within" taught players the ways of the Blue Mage by having them immitate a list of fierce creatures from the world of Vana'diel for a waiting camera shutter. If the group completed 3/4 of these quests, they earned their second promotion: Sergeant Major!
The final tasks asked players to spend their greatest energies on two difficult quests! The first, "Delivering the Goods" involved an NPC desparate to retrieve her lost grocery items, a list of six rare foods that players must duplicate at Fan Festival and return to the worried NPC. The second quest "Seeking Stars" detailed the job of an amateur astronomer looking to complete his chart of the stars. Players sought the various hidden constellations placed throughout Fan Festival, matched the elemental colors and identified where the constellation lie in the heavens as well as its given name. Completing 1 of the 2 quests in this list earned players the promotion of First Lieutenant.
Diligent players who earned their first three promotions were given the coveted challenge pack, a prize reward code including four event exclusive in-game items: the "Cordial Invite", a "Martial Ball Invite", a "Mercenary Camp Entry Slip", and a "Training Grounds Key". These four items allowed players to enter the Heroes Combat, Heroine's Combat, Mercenary Camp, and Special Event Assault activities on their personal in game character!
A special final reward was reserved for players who completed every available quest earning them the promotion of Captain and the bragging rights to their fellow adventurers. In the end we were happy to see so many successful parties complete the quests and receive their Challenge Packs. We hope all enjoyed the Live Quest at Fan Festival 2007!
Our carnival games made their debut appearance at Fan Festival 2007!
Inspired by seasonal events and other in-game challenges, we created four carnival games for attendees of Fan Festival to enjoy challenging their friends and win some fun prizes. The first of our carnival games was a target challenge known as "Ranger Training". The object of this game was to aim the bow and arrow at the light to heavy objects resting comfortably at the end of the table. A player who knocked down their intended prey received a prize!
The second carnival game challenge was titled Cactuar Capture! This game looks for players able to toss an inflatable ring over the extended cactus arms of our cactuar compadres. Successful attempts win some nice rewards including a lucky player who won a Cactuar Plush toy!
"Knockback", the third carnival game, employed players skill at fishing in game to real life! A challenger to this game was given a fishing pole with a ring on the end, and asked to "fish up" the empty plastic bottles resting on their side. Players who were able to stand the bottle upright using only the fishing pole and a bit of finesse earned themselves a carnival prize worth its weight in Gil.
The final carnival game "Crafting 101" allowed many players to pin-prick away their own hand-crafted icon. If the player successfully crafted their item within 10 minutes, they received a prize.
We were glad to have so many participants to our carnival games and we hope everyone enjoyed this new edition to our live events!
